MTSS Monday: The Importance of Capacity Building and Proactive Systems
Last week, I encountered an unexpected health challenge that kept me out of the office for several days. It was a tough situation that disrupted my regular routine—MTSS Monday didn’t go out as planned.
This experience reminded me of an essential principle of MTSS: the need for proactive systems and capacity building. Whether it’s within a school, a district, or our own workflows, sustainable systems are built on shared leadership and preparation for the unexpected.
If I had proactively planned or created a structure where others could step in, the schedule could have stayed on track. This moment has motivated me to re-evaluate how I approach my personal system design, ensuring consistency even during unforeseen circumstances. Moving forward, I will implement a system where I have multiple posts prepared and scheduled in advance, ensuring MTSS Monday is delivered as intended.
As leaders, we must ask ourselves:
• Are we empowering others and creating systems that can withstand the unexpected?
• Have we set up teams and processes to keep momentum alive, even when challenges arise?
Building capacity isn’t just about long-term sustainability—it’s about ensuring reliability for those we serve today. This reflection is not only personal but also a reminder of why capacity building is at the heart of MTSS.
How do you ensure your systems stay strong, no matter what happens?
