Reflection and New Beginnings

Today is a day of reflection and new beginnings.

As we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and reflect on his commitment to equity, inclusion, and community, it is a reminder of the power of relationships to drive meaningful change.

As educators and leaders, relationships are at the heart of everything we do. One of the most impactful practices I had as a principal was learning every student’s name. Greeting students by name whether at the door, in the cafeteria, at a game, or in the hallway helped create a culture of belonging and partnership that extended to families.

In addition, tools like relationship mapping and the 2x10 strategy offer simple yet powerful ways to ensure every student feels seen, heard, and supported. These approaches strengthen connections, build trust, and create the positive environments our students deserve.

What steps have you taken to build strong relationships with students, staff and families? Let’s share and learn from one another.

The links below provide information on Relationship Mapping and 2 x 10 strategies.
